Cooking Deep South Dishes one dish at a time – #1 Homemade Fresh Tomato Soup

A few months ago we discovered a blog, Deep South Dish, written by a home chef from the Mississippi gulf coast. We tried a few of her recipes and really loved the dishes.  So we decided to begin cooking more and more of her recipes and then share our results with you.

Recipe #1 – Homemade Fresh Tomato Soup

Lee was home for lunch today and he went ahead and peeled and chopped the tomatoes (gotta love his home lunch hour everyday!).  When we came home from work the sauteing began and then we added in all of the other ingredients. It simmered for about 30 minutes.  We wanted it a little smoother and less chunky so we put it in the blender for just a sec. and it is perfect. We added cream at the end too which made it smooth and delicious.  It was perfect paired with a grilled cheese sandwich.  It was definitely a “keeper” recipe and we can’t wait to fix it again as the weather cools off.

Here is our perfect Monday night soup!
