Disney for Dummies

Several years ago, almost immediately after we were married, we began talking about a trip to Disney World.  Disney World was a place that my family visited many times while I was growing up and I have many fond memories of the place.  Even though we visited the park time after time, we never stayed on property since it was always way too expensive.  I can remember many times leaving the Magic Kingdom after a long hot, sweaty day of waiting in lines and taking the monorail back to the parking lot.  On the monorail journey, you pass through the middle of the Contemporary Resort and I always remember that it seemed so cool.  I remember looking through the glass with my nose pressed up against it longingly gazing only to be immediately told that it was TOO EXPENSIVE, WE’RE NEVER STAYING HERE  SIT DOWN NOW!!

As Joy and I began doing some traveling as a married couple, Disney World slowly got pushed down the list.  First there was Easter in NYC, then a  Baseball/Six Flags week in Atlanta (which also included a new alternator and battery), followed by weekends in Fairhope, vacations to Gulf Shores and trips to Nashville.  About a year ago, we began talking about saving up for a trip back to Maui.  Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Maui, but I really felt a tug back to Disney World, therefore the Maui trip was put on the back burner.

P.S. – Maui oh how we miss you!  It won’t be long till will see you again dear friend (single tear down cheek).

So this past March we decided our destination would be the happiest place on Earth outside  Orlando, FL (I’m not talking about Cracker Barrel where you can order breakfast all day which is one of the most genious ideas ever!) and we booked a trip for after Thanksgiving.  We were talking to Joy’s parents several weeks later and they were looking for a fun vacation and so they will be traveling with us.

We will be staying at the Contemporary Resort with a Magic Kingdom view.  Basically what this means is that we will be able to see Space Mountain and the Castle from our balcony.  We are so excited to be able to sit on our balcony at night and be away from the masses and still be able to watch fireworks.  I am such a kid and stuff like this really thrills me to death.  We keep seeing the commercials with parents videoing surprise reveals to their kids that they are going to Disney World and the kids go crazy.

I guess that’s better than this reaction.

Wow there must be some cool stuff going on at Dick’s house!  Those kids were totally bummed!

We will be driving to Lake City, FL on Saturday November 27th and will get up and drive the other 2.5 hours to Orlando on Sunday the 28th.  We will be there until Friday December 3rd.  We will be armed with a Sony Cybershot camera, a FlipCam and a Macbook.  So we should be able to have some pretty sweet blog posts about this trip.  Maybe we can even put the $9.95 per 24 hours internet access fee to use and update the blog while we are there, but I don’t know if there will be time (a little Will Ferrell Old School reference for you all).  So for all of you out there in blogland reading this………………..
